PowerChurch Plus handles donor restrictions well

I learned something new from the PowerChurch Plus forum the other day. The actual change in accounting law that requires non-profits to report their financial positions with respect to a “change in assets” rather than having a “fund balance” actually has a name – FASB 117.

Here is a summary of what the statue requires: http://powerchurch.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5055

PowerChurch Plus makes it fairly easy to record donor-restricted donations. I have to admit, I used PowerChurch software for a long time without bothering to record our donor-restricted requests. Once I figured out the process, and what happens on the financial statements, I found it wasn’t so difficult. I try to explain it in simple terms on this sample …

Payroll much improved in PowerChurch Plus version 11

We use PowerChurch for our multi-site church. We have one leadership team and three church sites. Using PowerChurch Plus new grouping in payroll, we are able to assign percentages of each pastor’s time to each of the three sites. Each site has its own fund and its own budget. By dividing up the pastor’s payroll and housing, we can get a pretty accurate reading on how each location is doing financially.

Drawbacks. We have to cut checks for each part of the pastor’s time from each grouping, which means some pastors receive one, two, or even three separate paychecks. Oh well. The system works. And, although the pastors aren’t making more …

Multi-site Churches and Central Support Teams

Multi-site Churches and Central Support Teams

I recently spent some time with Kevin Penry from LifeChurch.tv where he was serving as a coach/consultant for eight multi-site churches participating in Leadership Network’s Multi-site JumpStart InnovationLab. During one of the breaks I asked Kevin to tell me about the greatest challenge for him as the multi-site ministry at LifeChurch.tv had grown over the last several years. In this video, he shares how he and the central team stay engaged “on-the-ground” as they serve campuses literally around the world.

If your church has launched your first multi-site campus in the last six to eight months, you may be intereInnovation-Lab-logo_LOWsted in applying to be a part of the next Multi-site JumpStart …

Statement of Church Auditing Procedures

Statement of Church Auditing Procedures

Role of the Audit Committee
The Audit Committee represents the interests of the membership of the church, as well as those of the clergy, the church governing body, and even those of the regional or national church body. The Audit Committee is entrusted to perform a task that none of these individuals or groups can perform, primarily because they do not have access to the financial information and transactions of the church on a daily basis. The members and other interested parties are not in a position to judge the accuracy and fairness of any summarized financial reports which the church produces.

The Audit Committee has the task of attempting to verify the truth and accuracy of …
